API Standards 620, 650, and 653 Interpretations— Tank Construction and In-Service Inspection

2011

The book covers all the codes listed in the API 653 BOK (the so-called ‘effectivity list’), but only the content that is covered in the body of knowledge. Note that in some cases (e.g. API 650 Welded Tanks for Oil Storage) this represents only a small percentage of the full code content. In addition, the content of individual chapters of this book is chosen to reflect those topics that crop up frequently in the API 653 ICP examination.

Above Ground Storage Tanks - Practical Guide to Construction, Inspection, and Tesing

2015

This book deals with every aspect that a construction team needs to know after receipt of an order to construct a storage tank at site. It describes all the activities that are to be carried out in a sequential manner. Although this book also touches on the design of foundations and mechanical design of storage tanks, these two topics are given only a superficial treatment and to provide an overview according to a preferred work sequence at the site.

API 2000 - Venting Atmospheric and Low-Pressure Tanks

2020

This standard covers the normal and emergency vapor venting requirements for aboveground liquid petroleum or petroleum products storage tanks and aboveground and underground refrigerated storage tanks designed for operation at pressures from full vacuum through 103.4 kPa (ga) (15 psig). Discussed in this standard are the causes of overpressure and vacuum; determination of venting requirements; means of venting; selection and installation of venting devices; and testing and marking of relief devices.

API 650 Welded Steel Tanks for Oil Storage

2020

is a standard developed and published by the American Petroleum Institute (API) that establishes minimum requirements for the design, fabrication, erection, and inspection of welded storage tanks. This standard only applies to tanks with uniformly supported bottoms and to tanks in non-refrigerated service that have a maximum design temperature of 93 degrees Celcius (200 degrees Fahrenheit) or less.

API RP 651 - Cathodic Protection of Aboveground Petroleum Storage Tanks

2014

The purpose of this recommended practice (RP) is to present procedures and practices for achieving effective corrosion control on aboveground storage tank bottoms through the use of cathodic protection. This RP contains provisions for the application of cathodic protection to existing and new aboveground storage tanks. Corrosion control methods based on chemical control of the environment or the use of protective coatings are not covered in detail.

API RP 652 - Lining of Aboveground Petroleum Storage Tank Bottoms

2014

This recommended practice (RP) provides guidance on achieving effective corrosion control in aboveground storage tanks by application of tank bottom linings. It contains information pertinent to the selection of lining materials, surface preparation, lining application, cure, and inspection of tank bottom linings for existing and new storage tanks. In many cases, tank bottom linings have proven to be an effective method of preventing internal corrosion of steel tank bottoms.
